Letting The Phone Ring

Imagine you are deep in thought, focusing/concentrating on a task or activity, then your phone rings.

How would you respond?

Majority of us would stop what we were doing and answer the phone right away.

Now imagine you hear the phone ring, then choose to ignore it… let the phone ring!

This simple, yet powerful, shift in our instinctive response empowers us to have more control over our external environment. We can apply this concept in several areas of our lives, professional and/or personal.

For example, that colleague who always gets under your skin is at it again. Your instinctive response would be to lash back at them, by dishing out what you were receiving (probably with interest).

Applying the concept of letting the phone ring, you take a deep breath first. You smile and then decide whether or not to say anything in response. You might even thank them for sharing their opinion, before you walk away.

Try it next time you find yourself about to respond instinctively, instead, let the phone ring… Take back control of your external environment, and watch as your well-being improves.

Let the phone ring…
