Saying Yes or No indicates you are quite sure, or you have been in the same situation before. You are decisive, rather than dillydallying. Excelling leaders are just as comfortable saying yes as they are saying no.
When you are not sure though, that is when Maybe comes in handy. Saying maybe is good for occasions when you need more time to think things through, before acting or reacting. If saying maybe, it is best to make it clear that you will give a definitive answer, and when you will do so. That way the person you are talking to realises you are not merely fobbing them off. What you are doing is buying yourself some time before making an informed decision or commitment.
